BIBLE-BELIEVING CHRISTIANS HAVE GOOD REASON TO BE ENCOURAGED!

It is now popular to say “science has proven that the Bible is not trustworthy”.  We at Logos Research Associates are professional scientists and scholars, and we strongly assert exactly the opposite!  Good science is consistently affirming Scripture!  At Logos we are committed to bringing to light many strong evidences which can encourage Christian belief – for all those who are actually willing to believe. Over the last 10-20 years, new evidences have been continuously coming to light which are remarkably consistent with Scripture, and remarkably inconsistent with prevailing popular views. This has been happening only by God’s grace. The Lord has used, and is still using, our Logos scholars to discover and communicate Scripture-affirming evidences.  Below we briefly outline some of these exciting new evidences, including some of our own on-going research projects:

1. THE HEAVENS DECLARE  GLORY OF GOD!


There is mounting evidence that the “big bang theory” (the theory that the universe made itself 13.5 billion years ago) is not good science –it is in fact not even testable, so it is not science at all. There is also growing evidence that the sun, the planets, and all the moons in our solar system cannot possibly be as old as advertized. These conclusions are supported by the on-going work of space scientists Dave Coppedge, Stan Sholar, and Spike Psarris, who are all members of Logos.

2. THE EARTH IS YOUNG!

The primary argument against the Scriptural view of a recent and miraculous creation has been based upon radioisotope dating methods, which have been used to argue that the earth is billions of years old. The RATE (Radioisotopes and the Age of The Earth) research project has recently demonstrated that there is a fundamental flaw in the way radioisotope results are usually interpreted. This flaw involves the assumption that the rates of radioisotope decay have always been what they are today.  The RATE research provided multiple independent lines of evidence that show this assumption is not correct. When carefully re-examined, the radioisotope data actually support the conclusion that the earth is young! Logos scholars Steve Austin, John Baumgardner, Bill Hoesch, and Stephen Boyd contributed to this research.

3. OCEAN EVIDENCE CONSISTENT WITH YOUNG EARTH!

A belief in long ages has led many marine scientists to conclude that the salt content of the oceans must be at equilibrium and that most of the salt deposits in the earth must have been laid down by evaporation over millions of years. We are convinced that a young earth perspective will provide better explanations for what we see in nature. For example, it is hard to imagine that the amount of salt leaving the oceans today is equal to the amount of salt flowing into the oceans from rivers (see related research link: Steven A. Austin and D. Russell Humphreys, The Sea’s Missing Salt). But that would have to be true if the current assumptions about the age of the earth were true.  In addition, rapid precipitation during a worldwide flood may well be a better explanation for the very pure layers of salts we observe rather than a slow evaporative process (M. Hovland, et al., Marine and Petroleum Geology 23 (2006) 855–869). We are in the process of developing theories consistent with a young earth and a worldwide flood to see if they better explain current ocean chemistry and salt deposits.

4. ADAM AND EVE WERE REAL PEOPLE IN RECENT PAST!


The miraculous creation of Adam and Eve, in the image of God, is foundational to the Gospel. There is now abundant genetic evidence for a literal Adam and Eve, including very well documented evidence that all humans alive today derive their mitochondria from a single woman, and all men living today derive their Y chromosome from a single man, both of whom lived only a few thousand years ago. Furthermore, the human race is unusually uniform genetically, which can be explained only by a very limited human gene pool in the recent past.  If Adam and Eve were created with only three times more heterozygosity than people living today, this would explain 99% of all observed human genetic variation. The other 1% of human genetic variation can be accounted for by mutations that have accumulated in the last six thousand years.  Contrary to popular opinion, the human genome is profoundly different from the chimp genome.  Mutations simply cannot transform the chimp genome into the human genome – not even given 100 million years. Furthermore, the reality of genetic entropy means that genomes do not improve – they degenerate (see below). The idea that there is serious evidence for human-chimp “missing links” can now be scientifically debunked. Logos scientists John Sanford, Rob Carter, and Jerry Bergman  are pursuing research in these areas.

5. THERE WAS A LITERAL, RECENT ‘FALL’!


A literal and recent Fall is foundational to the gospel. The reality of the Biblical Fall is painfully obvious for any who have eyes to see.  We see ubiquitous pain, predation, parasitism, death, and sin. The Bible says that we are a dying people in a dying world – a world that is wearing out like a garment.  Science affirms this – that everything degenerates, apart from an intelligent sustaining will. We call this entropy. There is compelling evidence that even biological systems are degenerating, and that all genomes are subject to genetic entropy (mutational degeneration).  If fact, death at its most basic level is the result of genetic entropy. This strongly affirms a literal Fall (all things are corrupted and decaying), and moreover, it strongly indicates our genomes must be young! So the Fall must have been very recent.  Logos Scientists John Sanford, Rob Carter, John Baumgardner, and Chris Osborne are continuing to do research in the area of genetic entropy.

6. THERE WAS A LITERAL, GLOBAL FLOOD!


Jesus says His second coming and final judgment will be “as in the days of Noah”. Contrary to the popular view, there is abundant evidence for a recent global flood. This evidence can be seen by the roughly mile-deep water-deposited sediments which cover all seven continents. These sediments of mud, sand, and lime gave rise to shale, sandstone and limestone.  This veneer of sedimentary rock was deposited so recently that it has not had time to be eroded and washed back into the oceans. These sediments were mostly deposited very rapidly, which is what allowed the ubiquitous preservation of fossils and fossil fuels. The water that delivered these deposits was mostly fast moving, and the deposits were often on a continental scale – clearly requiring conditions that speak of a global cataclysm. Throughout the sedimentary deposits are very clear indications of catastrophic events unlike anything happening today.  Logos scientists Steve Austin, John Baumgardner, and Bill Hoesch have on-going research in these areas.

7. TOWER OF BABEL AND THE DISPERSION WAS REAL!


Contrary to the popular “out of Africa” view of how the current human population took shape, there is strong evidence supporting the Biblical “out of Babylon” dispersion of humanity. History confirms that the first cities were in the area of the Mesopotamian valley. Linguistic evidence indicates all people groups came out of the Middle East. Genetic evidence is entirely consistent with all races tracing back to the Middle East (instead of NE Africa). Logos scientists Rob Carter and John Sanford are pursuing this line of research.
