Biography
Markus Blietz was born in 1962 near Munich, Germany. He studied physics at the Technical University of Munich and earned his doctorate in astrophysics at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Garching near Munich. His research focused on near infrared spectroscopy of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) and starburst regions. One highlight was his high-spatial-and-spectral-resolution observations of the distribution, physical parameters, and kinematics of the molecular interstellar medium toward the nucleus of the Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 1068. After leaving academia, Dr. Blietz transitioned to the semiconductor industry, first working as an application engineer for clients such as Intel and Motorola. There, he also wrote patents on silicon wafers for highly integrated semiconductor processes. He then transitioned to working as a patent manager, supporting innovation and intellectual property development.
Dr. Blietz grew up fascinated by science and initially embraced a naturalistic worldview shaped by evolution and the Big Bang. His career at the Max Planck Institute and later in industry deepened his commitment to rational inquiry, but personal crises—including burnout and his father’s death—prompted profound questions about meaning. A dramatic spiritual encounter led him to faith in Jesus Christ, after which he began intensive Bible study and joined a local Free Church community. Trusting Scripture over prior naturalistic assumptions, Dr. Blietz embraced the biblical creation account and experienced a transformative new life centered on God. Since 2010, he has actively shared his faith through lectures, writings, and online outreach, focusing on the relationship between science and the Bible. His journey from skeptic to evangelist now fuels his mission to present Christianity as both intellectually credible and spiritually life-giving.
